This game IS “Strong With the Force”! And if you haven’t tried it then my friend you are missing out!
I’m going to be blunt here…it’s what I do. I’ve heard people all over the internet talk about this game and the one complaint I hear over and over is “but it has funny dice I don’t understand”, Really? Wow, as gamers you should be ashamed of yourselves for even letting those words slip past your lips. Think for a moment, if you will, of someone new getting into role-playing… don’t you think all those dice that we take for granted as being normal look funny to them? How about watching someone new try and figure out a d4 for the first time? I’ve heard everyone from friends to industry professionals say “I’ll read the rule book and see what I think.” I highly suggest that you pick up the Beginner Box Set for this game and play through it. It will teach you step by step what the dice mean and how the game is played as you are playing through it. EVERYONE that has played it no matter how skeptical they were going in find out very quickly how fun and easy this game is!
Within a couple of rounds you will be gathering your own dice pool together and playing like an old pro. Are the dice different? Yes. Is it hard to understand how they work? No. The way EotE is designed… it wouldn’t work with numbered dice. This is a story driven game and the dice pools reflect that well. It’s not as simple as Pass or Fail. You might succeed in shooting that Stormtrooper but there may also be some adverse effect. The best part is that it really draws the players into the storytelling aspect of the game. It lets them describe their actions and what happens (good or bad) from reading the dice pool. I’ve run every version of the Star Wars RPG since West End Games first put out the d6 system and even I was worried that this wouldn’t be something my group would like. I was wrong. Within the first 30 minutes of play we were all in love with the new system that Fantasy Flight Games has given us!
The artwork in this book is amazing! It is a fresh new look into the Star Wars universe and it is very well done! The main rule book weighs in at close to 450 pages… that’s a lot to take in but don’t worry you will be learning each section as you play. Plus a lot of it is fluff to help the players and GM really understand the background.  In short if you love Star Wars and are not playing this game, then you my friend are doing yourself a disservice. My group plays it weekly and we still can’t get enough. If you want to see the game in action please check out our videos on… https://www.youtube.com/user/RobsGameGroup
Or check back here as I will be blogging the story from our sessions!
